Rather than heading straight to Lerwick, we decided to go for a walk to see the beach at Uyea, as recommended by the young women we had met on Lang Ayre. So, we drove to North Roe, parked at hte school and walked along a track al the way to the farm at Uyea and then on to the beach. What a beach! It was well worth the walk. Robert had checked the tides and it was nearly low tide which is the only time the beach is accessible. We used a handy rope to lower ourselves down. It was glorious. We got a bit of a surprise when we thought we'd spotted something in the water - it was a sea kayaker, the one we had seen on Papa Stour. He came out for a rest and we chatted for a bit. James from Edinburgh who is kayaking round the Shetland Isles but, due to poor winds, he has been in hotels for several nights waiting on the conditions improving.
After a quick cuppa, we headed back to the car, back to the caravan, packed up and drove back to Lerwick. We had booked a visit to the museum and grabbed a coffee and had a quick picnic lunch before going in for a look around. Lots of interesting stuff - all the interactive stuff and kid-friendly stuff was out of control. We then wandered round the Lerwick shops and bought a few things before heading to the ferry. As we were leaving the captain announced that we were leaving by the north channel, which meant that we had a great view of the cliffs on Noss; we even saw the two wardens at the top of the cliffs, giving us a wave. We were also treated to a fly past by loads of gannet. That was brilliant.
It was another lovely calm evening for the sail back to Aberdeen. We spotted some dolphins as we arrived back in port on Sunday morning.
Looking forward to the next holiday already.
